Backstory

I started VBros on a whim during a time when everything was supremely miserable, and I was downing adult comedies like it was the only thing that could fix me. I knew precisely nothing about the show, beyond that there was a weird old man in it, and apparently it was good...? Immediately after one episode, I knew this was a keeper. I was actually kind of appalled that nobody I had ever met ever thought to tell me about this show, LOL.

Nothing really happened for a few seasons, and even when it did, I thought that I liked Dean. Which is absolutely hilarious in hindsight (no offense to him). But I think it was the beginning of S4 where I suddenly got hit square in the face with how much I actually liked Hank, and I was really embarrassed by it at first. There was a weird period of time where I was trying to juggle both of them and it never totally worked, but I think as of writing this, I am officially classifying myself as a Hank girlie only.

About Hank

Henry Allen Venture - who prefers to go by Hank - is a lot of things. He's a private detective; he is an adventurer; he is a successful (?) businessman; he's questionably Russian or Italian, depending on the day and the outfit he's wearing; and he's always thinking about how to best reflect the inherent coolness of Batman in his daily life.

In all seriousness, Hank and his brother Dean are the sons of Dr. Thaddeus S. Venture, who in turn was the son of famed superscientist Dr. Jonas Venture. Their family has a history of dealing with costumed aggression and going on strange adventures, often either helped or hindered by the addition of experimental superscience. At first, the two of them didn't question the dangerous and questionable life they lived; but as they came into their own, it became a point of contention in the family.

Hank becomes more rebellious as the show goes on, spurred on by the sense of not being able to control his own destiny, and the feeling that his father loves Dean more than him. Even while dealing with a very tumultuous home life, Hank remains energetic, adventurous, and always puts 100% of his energy into anything he attempts. This is sometimes good and sometimes quite bad.

Hank has an immensely imaginative spirit, and takes on numerous personas who are very real to him. The show skirts around specifically saying that he has Dissociative Identity Disorder - in fact, Dean namedrops it in one episode and says he doesn't think that Hank has it - but there's no denying that these different characters are an integral part of who he is, how he deals with stress, and how he explores different sides of himself. They're often played for comedy (to a very successful degree) in the show itself, but the movie finale spends more time focusing on Hank's splintered self-image.
