Backstory

I started watching Kaitou Joker close to two years ago, actually!! I found it via Anilist rabbit hole digging, and I was so obsessed with the art style I dropped everything to try it out. I loved it from the get-go, but I'm famously bad at finishing shows, so it languished in my watchlist until I got myself hooked up with a home media server to make watching shows less annoying. So I've been blasting through it, and as with everything I like, I need to have a little OC for it or I will explode and die.

About Joker

Joker is a Phantom Thief, and a maker of miracles! Trained by the legendary Phantom Thief Silver Heart, he has a wealth of knowledge about how to make off with (actual!) wealth. He and his ninja assistant, Hachi, send advance notices all around the world to alert the owners of expensive treasures that they may not be the owners for very much longer. He never gives up in the face of impossible odds, and almost always comes out on top.

Despite his glamorous, action-packed lifestyle, Joker is actually quite a layabout, and has Hachi do all of the cooking and cleaning for him. He can be self-absorbed at times, prioritizing treasure over helping others unless somebody else snaps him out of it, but he always ends up doing what is right... eventually. He also can't resist being a bit of a nuisance, and gets in fights easily with people who are more strait-laced than he is.

About My OC

Never once in my life have I ever made an OC that could be boiled down to just 'relative of existing canon character', but as I was trying to come up with her, I realized this would actually work perfectly for her. I decided to make her the niece of Mr. Kaneari, a flamboyant and absurdly rich man who always gets his new, expensive treasures yoinked away by Joker. I always thought he was a really fun character, and since at first I wanted my OC to kind of just vaguely be 'daughter of unnamed rich guy', this was a way to expand on that idea and give her more characters to actually interact with.

So, she is Mr. Kaneari's niece, which means she has an excuse to freely be tossed into random situations now. She and her uncle are both equal amounts of overzealous and stupid, with an outstanding grudge against Joker. At first, she really had nothing to do with anything, but after seeing her uncle get robbed for the third or fourth time, she decided that somebody should really do something about that smug burglar who kept showing up uninvited and taking their things.

Joker could really not care less about her, unless she happens to be the one holding onto a very expensive necklace or a pair of diamond earrings she got as a gift, but she tries to yap at him about how he needs to mind his own business anytime he comes to steal a treasure from her uncle. After a few occassions of this, he got annoyed enough that he makes time to yap back at her, and it's now pretty much a given that he will make an excuse to torment her when they're both in the same place. At some point one (or both?) of them started kind of getting Too Into the 'yelling at each other' part of things, and there is definitely some sort of crush situation happening, but you would be hard-pressed to actually figure out what's going on or who has a crush on whom.

What I Love About Him

♡ I literally love everything about this show. All of the characters, the writing, the designs, the colors, everything is so charming and pleasant. He's such a fun protag lol, he's annoying but in a way that's still lovable, and he pulls off all of the necessary charming and cool moments effortlessly. Also Ayumu Murase sweep!!!!
